Great Maplestead is an attractive bucolic village, safe and peaceful. Nestled in the beautiful, undulating countryside of North Essex, close to the Suffolk border, A jewel of East Anglia.
This active and caring community has a population of about 355. Situated close to the market towns of Halstead (3 miles) and Sudbury (7 miles). It is about 30 minutes by car from Colchester, 45 minutes from Bury St Edmunds and an hour from Cambridge. Buses run from the village into Halstead and Sudbury daily (except Sundays). The nearest train stations are at Sudbury, Braintree (10 miles) and Colchester, with trains to London, Ipswich and Norwich.
